Artists, press and arts supporters attended a reception to kick off the new season for New Hope Arts Inc and to announce the winners in the New Hope Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition.

Project Director Robin Larsen introduced a number of supporters who offered words of encouragement and support for the organization that sponsors the New Hope Sculpture Exhibition and Showcase the Arts of New Hope – a town-wide celebration of the arts.

At the top on the list of thank you’s were Brad and Robin Elliott of Elliott Building Group, Ltd. who kicked off the organization’s annual fund drive with a major gift of $5000. Both donors spoke highly of NHArts Inc’s programs and the importance of keeping the arts at the heart of New Hope. Larsen also recognized George Michael of George E. Michael Inc who has been an ongoing supporter of New Hope Arts, Inc.programs and has pledged $5000 to this year’s projects. Joanne Lutostansky spoke on behalf of Michael who was out of town, emphasizing the importance of focusing on the positive elements that make New Hope so special.

During her announcements Larsen told the crowd that she felt “we live in a remarkable town. Somehow we manage to support and nurture such great cultural organizations as New Hope Arts Inc., Concordia Chamber Players, Riverside Symphonia, the Michener Satellite and so many more”

She expressed the feeling of the entire committee – which now numbers more than 27 individuals – when she said they all felt “so proud to be creating these projects in New Hope.” And she particularly thanked all donors- large and small - who had contributed in the first year and a half. “We had a vision but it was you who had the faith to help us make it real.”.

New Hope Borough Council person Rey Velasco spoke on behalf of the Borough emphasizing their early support of the sculpture project and their commitment to continue their support. Velasco also sent good wishes from Mayor Keller and Borough Council president Richard Hirschfield who were both out of town and unable to attend. Other council in attendance included Council VP Sharyn Keiser and council members Ed Duffy, Randy Flager and Geri Delevich.

JD Coleates, representing host for the evening Triumph Brewery, spoke of their sponsorship last year and announced that they would serve as a site sponsor this year with a pledgeof $1500 and also as a site host. A piece by Dana Stewart (remembered from last year for his piece Boomer) will be installed on their property in April 2004. Other site sponsors attending and speaking in support of the project included David Baer of the New Hope Solebury Library who pledged support again this year and Les Isbrandt, President of the New Hope Historical Society, who hosted Christoph Spath’s “Balanced Arc” and Harry Gordon’s “Red Granite Arch” this year. Carl and Deanie Glassman, owners of the Wedgwood Inn, were unable to attend but have also committed to serve as a site host again this year.

Larsen also used the event as an opportunity to announce that they have received a grant award from the GPCA 5 County Arts Fund and another grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts Local Government program. She also announced that tickets are available for the April 17, 2004 (7-9PM) Patrons Preview for the Sculpture Exhibition and encouraged guests to also save the dates July 9-11 for Showcase Weekend with the popular party under the tents at Union Square being held this year on July 11, 2004.

The evening ended with a slide presentation of accepted works for the Indoor & Outdoor Exhibition of the New Hope Sculpture Exhibition.
