- TWO LAMBERTVILLE ARTISTS TO SHARE SPOTLIGHT IN MILLENNIUM
SHOW - Lambertville, NJ, (November 14,1999) ...Suzanne
Douglass and Anna Bayon, two celebrated Lambertville painters,
will exhibit recent works in a special Millennium show entitled
Two from Lambertville, at the Hrefna Jonsdottir Gallery,24
Bridge Street in Lambertville. The opening reception is
on December 11th from 6-9pm. The show will usher in the Millenium
and close on January 3, 2000.
Bayon, best known for her lush landscapes of local scenes,
is a native of Argentina and a transplanted New Yorker who
has made her home in Lambertville since the early 1980s.
Educated in Buenos Aires, and later in New York at the Art
Students League and the Frank J. Reilly School of Art, Bayon
has not only participated in numerous prestigious area shows,
including the Annual Phillips Mill Show in New Hope, PA, but
has also been included in group exhibitions by the Trenton
Museum, the New Jersey Center for the Visual Arts, the Museum
of Modern art Argentina, Museum of Modern art of Brazil, and
the Museum of Modern Art of Mexico as well as the Museum of
Contemporary Art of Spain. Her paintings hang in a number
of important local and corporate collections as well.
Suzanne Douglass has lived and painted in Lambertville since
1971. She is one of the areas best-known, widely collected
artists. Her oils, noted for their richness and depth, have
a lustrous opalescence created by extensive underpainting
which makes them sought after by collectors from New York,
Philadelphia Washington and beyond. Though still life has
become her hallmark, she is also recognized for her impressionistic
landscapes and her haunting portrait "heads" which
have a mysterious, spiritual quality. Douglass has been a
regular participant over the years in the annual ArtsBridge
juried show at Prallsville Mill and the Phillips Mill Show
in New Hope. Her entries at Phillips Mill won awards in 1991
and again in 1993 in the categories of Traditional Oil Painting
and Representational Oil Pinting.
This special Millennium show marks the first formal exhibit
in several years for either artist. " This is a really
special event," says gallery owner, Hrefna Jonsdottir.
" We are very pleased to offer Two from Lambertville
as our Millennium celebration." The Hrefna Jonsdottir
Gallery, 24 Bridge Street ,is open from 10-6 Monday through
Saturday and from 11-5 on Sunday. For information call (609)
397-3631.
Members of the press are invited to attend the opening December
