A group of New Hope Citizens for Positive Change (NHC) has been formed.  The goal is to work to end the divisiveness that is damaging the Borough so that the Council can get on with important business. Focus will be on the implementation of the New Hope Comprehensive Plan dated April 1997, which was developed over several years with wide bipartisan support. NHC feels strongly that the Plan sets forth a vision that should form the backbone for the future development of New Hope Borough.
NHC will provide bipartisan help for Borough Council candidates supporting our Comprehensive Plan based agenda with volunteer help,  financial backing and moral support. Candidates interested in running on the following agenda or who want to support these goals should fax 862-9197 for more information.

1. All candidates should be willing to attend state sponsored municipal government training workshops
2. Implement the recommendations of the Stone/Kelly Study
3. Work with local, county and state agencies to implement the Open Space Plan
4. Promote the responsible development of Union Camp to turn it from blight to a community asset within the next two years
5. Review all sources of income and expense reduction to get New Hope on a sound fiscal footing
6. Promote the arts as a central theme for the community
7. Study all aspects of public water and sewer for reasons of public health and safety
8. Make effective use of formalized volunteer committees to assist in researching important topics such as public water, public safety, finance and parking
9. Stress unity and organization for Borough Council meetings to promote an informed and involved Community
10. Present and promote New Hope in a positive way

"The Great Escape" is Coming Soon.-
Are New Hope - Solebury Residents Ready?
When you hear the term "The Great Escape," images of Houdini and disappearing acts may come to mind. The New Hope Eagle Fire Company is announcing that "The Great Escape" will take place in New Hope and Solebury this October, but they're not planning to make local residents disappear. In fact, The Eagle Fire Company has been working in conjunction with the nonprofit National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and fire departments throughout the United States and Canada to implement the first-ever North American fire drill "The Great Escape" during 1998 Fire Prevention Week, October 4 - 10.
"The Great Escape" is a concerted effort to get citizens throughout North America actively involved in fire safety, specifically home escape planning and practice. The Eagle Fire Company is strongly encouraging all residents of New Hope and Solebury to develop home escape plans and practice them on Wednesday, October 7 at 6 p.m. during "The Great Escape." The Great Escape is a fun activity for entire families to participate in during Fire Prevention Week, but it also could save their lives," says Firefighter, Anissa Weimer, Fire Prevention Educator, Eagle Fire Company. "If a fire breaks out in your home, you and your family only have a few minutes to escape safely. Home fire escape planning and practice ensure that everyone in the household will know how to use that small window of opportunity effectively and get out alive." NFPA, the official sponsor of Fire Prevention Week for more than 70 years, developed "The Great Escape" theme in response to results from its 1997 Home Escape Survey that showed only 16% of respondents who had escape plans actually practiced them. "These findings demonstrate that most people are not well prepared if a fire does occur in their home," says Meri-K Apply, NFPA's vice president of public education. "Our hope is that 'The Great Escape' motivates people to begin thinking about fire safety in a positive, proactive way, and to start practicing their home escape plans regularly, at least twice a year." In addition to "The Great Escape" fire drill on October 7, Eagle Fire Company is inviting New Hope and Solebury residents to participate in the North American "The Great Escape" grand prize contest. Everyone who develops a home escape plan may submit it to Eagle Fire Company on Sugan Road.
Chief Thomas Markey will receive all submitted entries, review and select one plan, and send it to NFPA. In November, NFPA will announce one randomly picked grand prize winner, who will receive a trip for up to four people to Walt Disney World. This grand prize vacation is sponsored by KIDDE Safety, the world's leading manufacturer of home safety products under the KIDDE and Nighthawk brand names. When developing a home fire escape plan, Firefighter Weimer encourages all participants to use the mapping grid provided by Eagle Fire Company. The grid, which can be picked up at the local fire station on Sugan Road, includes the official entry form required for submission to NFPA's contest.
The Great Escape offers a wealth of opportunities for New Hope and Solebury residents of all ages to participate in Fire Prevention Week this year. In addition to the Great Excape program, The Eagle Fire Company will hold it's annual Open House.
The Open House includes fire safety information, firefighting displays, fun, food, and games. New Hope-Solebury residents are invited to visit the Volunteer Fire Company on Thursday, October 8, from 7 to 9 p.m.. The grand prize winner and all other winners will be announced during this event. "We look forward to sharing these events with the community, and urge everyone to join in on the fun!" Additionally, anyone who is interested in learning about Jr. Firefighter- Firefighter, Auxiliary, Fire Company Membership or event participation is encouraged to contact the fire company at 862-2692 or e-mail
