Call For Volunteers For 2nd Annual Bastille Day Celebration
The New Hope Bastille Day Committee has announced its next meeting will be held January
14, 2002 and interested community members are invited to attend. This year promises to be
much different from last year when the group had less than three months to put together
the project that French Counsel Daniele Thomas Easton called one of the best publicized
she had ever attended. The 2002 Bastille Day Committee has already held their first
planning meeting and is readying to get the show on the road. Anyone interested in
learning more about how their business might participate this year or would be interested
in volunteering to help with the July 13 & 14, 2002 event are encouraged to call Robin
Larsen at 215-862-3396. The next committee meeting will be held Monday, January 14, 2002
at George Michael's property at 50 W. Bridge Street in New Hope. The committee asks that
interested individuals call in advance so adequate materials will be available for all
attending.

Adding to the cultural ferment in Trenton for the New Year 2002 is the inauguration of the
Ellarslie Jazz and Avant Garde music series presented by the Trenton Museum Society at the
Trenton City Museum in Cadwalader Park. The EJAG series will showcase leading experimental
and jazz musicians from the greater Trenton area, and will kick off this January 27 with
well-known jazz composer and pianist Jim Ridl and his trio. Ridl, who lives in Hamilton,
has recently released his third CD, "The Jim Ridl Trio Live" on Dreambox,
following two other releases: "Blues Liberations," a CD of Jim playing his own
compositions on solo piano; and "Five Minutes to Madness and Joy," his much
acclaimed 1999 debut with his piano trio. In addition to his own burgeoning career as a
headliner, Ridl is an accomplished and sought after pianist who has performed with Randy
Brecker, Ravi Coltrane, James Moody, Clark Terry, the late Dizzy Gillespie, and many other
of the legendary names of jazz. He currently performs and records with jazz guitar legend
and Blue Note recording artist Pat Martino, saxophonist Dave Liebman and vocalist J.D.
Walter, baritone saxophonist Denis DiBlasio, and violinist Diane Monroe. Trenton has never
lacked for jazz outlets, but since the demise of the Trenton Avant Garde Festival, there
are few opportunities to experience the area's many experimental musicians in action. The
EJAG series will seek to once again provide a forum for cutting edge jazz and contemporary
music of all kinds. The shows will take place at the historic Ellarslie Museum mansion in
Cadwalader Park, in the main gallery room, an intimate space with warm acoustics which
will give music enthusiasts a chance to encounter a variety of musical artists in the
company of some of the region's best contemporary visual art (the "Artsbridge to
Trenton" juried show will be hanging when Ridl performs). The EJAG series will
continue on March 3, featuring composer, instrument inventor, saxophonist and pianist Dave
Homan. The Jim Ridl Trio will perform at Ellarslie on Sunday, January
27 at 3 P.M. Admission is $15, or $10 for Trenton Museum Society members. If you would
like additional information please call me at 609-392-5632, or you can reach Jim Ridl at
609-587-6094. See you there!
