The City of Trenton - Douglas H. Palmer, Mayor and The Department of Recreation, Natural
Resources and Culture Francis E. Blanco, Director Are proud to announce that on Feb
9th, 2002 at 6:00 PM, in conjunction with the opening reception of Artsbridge to
Trenton, a formal presentation to Mr. Thomas A. Malloy naming Mr. Malloy the Artist
Laureate of Trenton. The presentation will take place at The Museum of the City of
Trenton, Ellarslie Mansion in Cadwalader Park. Born in 1912 Mr. Malloy moved to Trenton in
1923. In his mid-fifties he began to take his love of religion, community service and the
City of Trenton to another level, by preserving through his watercolors old New Jersey
farmland and the ever-changing Trenton city-scapes. He was dubbed the "Dean of
Artists" because his artwork and his words inspire so many young artists to
appreciate the beauty of life and to take hold of any opportunities that may come their
way. On November17, 2001 Mr. Malloy was named "Artist Laureate" by Mayor Douglas
H. Palmer. A member of the Garden State Watercolor Society, National League of
Professional Artist, The Trenton Artists Workshop Association (TAWA), Artworks and the
Trenton Museum Society, Mr. Malloy received an honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts from Rider
University. He was also a founding member of the Arts Commission that was instrumental in
