A Modern Day Romeo & Juliet With An Urban-Caribbean Beat
On November 4, 2000, R. Ashton “WRAGGS” Wall and the newly formed not-for-profit Colloquium Depot, Ltd. will present a world premiere concert version of her new musical COLOURS at the Stephen S. Buck Theatre in New Hope, Pennsylvania. And once again Bucks County, recognized as a great try-out town, will launch another exciting new work in theatre.
A new show goes through many stages before it hopefully reaches New York. There are readings, workshops, rewrites and more readings until the writers feel they have it just right. COLOURS creators have made that journey and now have chosen to premiere their work in New Hope.
COLOURS, a modern day Romeo and Juliet, is more than just a love story. This entertaining evening of musical theatre explores the ideas of diversity, tolerance and the common challenges all young people face as they set out on their own path in life. The engaging score draws from a variety of musical influences including pop, rap, and rhythm & blues with overtones of a calypso beat. The Concert Version of COLOURS guarantees a wonderful evening of original music for the entire family.
Playwright/lyricist WRAGGS has assembled an amazingly talented group of performers to participate in the New Hope premiere of her new musical including world class pianist Fredricka King. King who recently made her New York debut at Carnegie Hall has performed around the world and serves as a member of the piano faculty at the New England Conservatory and the Humanities Department of Emerson College in Boston.
Musical Director Bobby Lewis has served as musical director at the Motown Café in New York for three years and prior to that for The Maury Povich Show. He has written several musicals himself and most recently released his first CD entitled Worthy. He has also appeared on stage off-Broadway in the musical theatre IT’S NOT FUNNY as well as in Maya Angelou’s KING, THE MUSICAL at the 1997 Presidential Inauguration
The Concert Version of COLOURS will feature top professional performers from New York. WRAGGS, who lives both in Manhattan and New Hope, will also audition local talent for several dance roles. The performance will benefit Community Co-sponsors: AIR-Artists In Residence, The Kalmia Club and PIP-Partners in Progress.

Mel Leipzig
Mr. Leipzig, a Professor of Art at Mercer County Community College, received a Certificate in Fine Arts at Cooper Union, a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at Yale University, and a Master of Fine Arts degree at Pratt Institute. He has received many awards for both painting and teaching, including a Fulbright Grant to Paris, a Louis Comfort Tiffany fellowship, NJ Governor’s Purchase Prize Award, Raymond P.R. Nelson Prize, National Academy of Design, New York, and three grants from the New Jersey State Council for the Arts. He was one of the last artists to receive a grant in painting from the National Endowment for the Arts and the first professor to receive Mercer's "Distinguished Teaching Award".
Mr. Leipzig’s paintings are in the collection of the New Jersey State Museum, The Montclair Museum, the Noyes Museum, the Morris Museum, Cooper-Hewitt Museum, Yale Art Gallery, Rutgers University, Piscataway and Newark, Newark Public Library, Schering-Plough Corporation, Mercer County Community College and the White House Collection. Since 1963, he has had twenty-six one-man shows in galleries and museums in New Jersey, New York, Maryland, Florida and Arkansas and numerous group exhibits.
Mr. Leipzig paints from life. Observing what takes place in every day events and choosing those he holds dear in his life, he captures their moment together and allowing us, the viewers, in. Simply stated, “These works allow the viewer to feel they are in the painting rather than looking at the painting”, Margaret O’Reilly.
Mr. Leipzig lives in Trenton and is represented by Gallery Henoch in New York City.
Vincent Ceglia
Vincent Ceglia has had fifty one-person shows and exhibited throughout the United States, Italy and France, and has been the recipient of many awards. He had a one-person show at the James A. Michener Art Museum in 1990, and in May 1991, a one-person show at the Woodmere Art Museum in Philadelphia.
Mr. Ceglia has exhibited in the New Jersey State Museum, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Newark Museum, Morris Museum of Art, James A. Michener Art Museum, Palazzo Valentini-Rome, Butler Institute of American Art, National Academy of Design and the National Arts Club, New York. Also with the American Watercolor Society, the Philadelphia Watercolor Club, the New Jersey Watercolor Society and many other private galleries. Ceglia's paintings can be found in the permanent collections of Penn State University, Sun Oil Company, James A. Michener Art Museum, American Can Company, Fidelity Bank, Educational Testing Service as well as private and public collections.
A former Professor for 28 years on the Visual Arts Faculty at Mercer County' College and Trenton Jr. College, he has been a member of the Salmagundi Club, Philadelphia Watercolor Club and Philadelphia Sketch Club. He is listed in "Who's Who in America", "Who's Who in the East" and his painting reproduced in the "International Dictionary of Watercolorists", published in Milan, Italy. Ceglia was one of two Americans invited to exhibit in Rome at the "Collettiva Arti Figurative", in honor of the 36th year of liberation of Italy.
Zoltan Buki, Curator of Fine Arts at the New Jersey State Museum, wrote, "Ceglia does not hold up a mirror to nature simply to record what has already been registered on the retina. In his work we are presented at one time with grand vistas, at other times, with microscopic glimpses which the artist has already transformed by his passion.”
For 35 years, Ceglia resided in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. In 1992 he was honored "Artist of the Year" by the Bucks County Chamber of Commerce. In a special issue of American Artist Magazine, 1992, he was the subject of an illustrated article on his painting and working in Italy, where he spent twelve summers teaching painting workshops. In 1994 Ceglia was awarded the Schweitzer Price of $3,500 for the best painting at the 169th Exhibition of the National Academy of Design in New York. In September 1994 "The Artist" magazine did an article, "The Watercolor World's 1994 Winners". Ceglia was represented as the top award winner at the National Academy of Design. At the 67th Annual Exhibition, 1996, at the Phillips' Mill, New Hope, Pa., Ceglia received the Top Patrons' Prize for painting, of $1,000.
In 1997 and 1998 Ceglia received the Crest Medal from the Philadelphia Watercolor Club for a distinguished career in visual arts and long association with the Philadelphia Watercolor Club.
A Professor Emeritus, Visual Arts from Mercer County College where he taught for over 20 years, and also was a consultant to Thomas Edison College. Since 1985 the artist has spent six months of the year working and exhibiting in Italy.
