The Greater New Hope Chamber of Commerce will sponsor the 2nd Annual
Bucks County Culinary Competition on Sunday, November 2, 2003. This event is
being held at Holly Hedge Estate in Solebury and held in their newly
constructed banquet facility. The event will be from 3-6pm and will feature
chefs from this areas best restaurants preparing and serving their signature
dishes. The chefs will be judged by a panel of prominent food critics and
chefs. Chefs may enter in the appetizer, entree or dessert categories.
Several chefs are entering in more than one category. Guests will be able to
sample allof the dishes prepared as well as enjoy a Wine Tasting presented
by Capital Wine and Spirits and Berringer Wine.
So far participating restaurants include from the New Hope area:
The Raven, Havana, The Landing, Hotel du Village, HollyHedge, Esca, Triumph
Brewery and The Mansion Inn's Champagne Room. From Doylestown: The
waterwheel and Roosevelts Blue Star will be joining us. Some of
Lambertville's favorite restaurants will take part including, Lambertville
Station, Deanna's, Hamilton's Grill Room and Church Street Bistro. From
Stockton: Atrio will be participating and we are looking forward to
welcoming Rieglesville Inn and Jenny's.
This is a fund raising event with a portion of the proceeds being donated to
the Salvation Army's culinary training program, "Soups On". The program
takes men and women from shelters and prepares them for employment in the
food services industry. Sponsors of the event include Capitol Wine and
Spirits Co, Beringer Blass Wine Estates, Pure Pride Spring Water and
Starbucks Coffee.
Tickets for the event are $40 for the Food Tasting and $55 for the Food and
Wine Tasting. Tickets are available at Cockamamies on Bridge St in New Hope,

Five Alarm Fundraiser for Local Fire Department
Mark Your Calendar For An Evening of Great Food & Festivities November
9. November 9, 2003 promises to be a great day of community
working for community as area restaurants, chefs, artists and businesses
all join together to support the Lambertville Fire Department and the
needs of Lambertville’s four fire companies. The 5 |
Alarm Firehouse Supper &
Benefit Auction will begin at 4:30pm at the River Room at the
Lambertville Station with cocktail and hors d’oeuvres prepared by some
of the area’s finest chefs. At 5:00 pm New Hope Mayor Larry Keller will
auction off a variety of items and services donated to the effort. “This
is not your ordinary auction. This auction will feature everything from
car detailing, plumbing services or building materials to paintings by
Lambertville artists and beautiful items from area design shops and
galleries.” explained auction chairperson Nate Waldron. Bruce Rock added
“We want this to be a really fun auction where everyone finds something
they want to bid on and we want it all to say how great it is to be part
of a community like Lambertville.” When the auction closes at 6:30pm
guests will move onto one of four firehouses where area restaurants will
be preparing traditional firehouse standards with their own culinary
flair. Hamilton’s Grill Room will be preparing a Roast Beef Dinner at
the Fleetwing Fire House, Lambertville Station will be making a Roast
Turkey Supper at Union Fire Company, and Jackie Bowe’s new restaurant
Sideways Café will be serving Grandma Sophie’s Meatloaf with mushroom
gravy at the Columbia Fire House. The final house – Hibernia – will
feature Rick’s Café’s Italian Extravaganza. Tickets that include the
4:30-6:30pm pre-dinner cocktail party, auction and food and spirits for
the 7pm dinner are $40. Tickets may be purchased at Lambertville City
Hall, any Lambertville Firehouse or by calling ticket chairperson Robert
Hayes 609-397-2274. Anyone interested in donating to the auction may

the program may call Bruce Rock at 609-397-0956. Proceeds from the event
will be used to upgrade the citywide emergency alarm system and purchase
much needed equipment and uniforms for Lambertville’s volunteer force.
The Fire Department is a 501c3 not for profit and all donations are tax
deductible as allowed by law.

Lambertville Fire Department is ready to
roll. Every Thursday from now until November you'll be spotting fire
trucks around Lambertville gathering donations for the Lambertville Fire
Department 's "5 Alarm Firehouse Supper & Auction" to be held November
9, 2003. This week the truck was pictured in front of the Lambertville
Station (who is donating space for the auction and is preparing one of
the firehouse suppers) and pictures fireman Bruce Rock and Fleet Wing
firemen Mark Leary and Frank Kramer with donors from Tesoro Home

"Hummingbirds The Birds that Kiss Flowers" Subject of
Bucks County Audubon Society Meeting. The Bucks County Audubon Society
presents a free public program, "Hummingbirds - The Birds that
Kiss Flowers " on Tuesday, November 11 at 7:30 p.m. at the Audubon
Visitor Center at Honey Hollow Environmental Education Center. H.

illustrated program on these colorful avian jewels. This is a regularly

Audubon Sponsors Simplicity Circle for Sustainable Environment
The "Simplicity Circle", an on-going study group sponsored
by the Bucks County Audubon Society, will meet on Wednesday, November
12 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Audubon Visitor Center. Participants
in this informal study group examine a range of ideas that help simplify
their lives, and in the process, create a more sustainable environment.
