Kehilat HaNahar is eagerly anticipating the arrival of a gang of dummies. Nationally renowned ventriloquist Jonathan Geffner, and his group of madcap puppets, will join the synagogue as part of its annual Chanukah celebration. In a program called, “Maccabee Madness,” Geffner will retell and re-enact the story of Chanukah in a side-splittingly funny show that’s guaranteed to delight audience members of all ages. The event is open to the public at no charge. “We are delighted that Jonathan and his puppets will join our Little Shul in celebrating the festival of lights,” said Rabbi Sandy Roth. “Our Chanukah celebration has always been a wonderful time for members of our community to come together and ‘lighten’ things up. This year should be especially engaging for adults and children alike.” Geffner and his puppet partners have enchanted audiences throughout the United States. They also have appeared on the nationally on television programs, such as Late Night with David Letterman, Hour Magazine, The Joe Franklin Show, and Dialogue. In addition, Geffner has appeared in several anti-drug Public Service Announcements. In addition to the puppet show, the synagogue will continue its long-standing tradition of inviting each family that attends to kindle the candles of a favorite menorah. In years past, the Shul has been bathed in the glowing warmth of more than 50 menorahs. Kehilat HaNahar’s Chanukah celebration will begin at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, December 28, the fourth night of the eight-day festival of lights. Chanukah begins on the night of December 25 and runs through January 2. Kehilat HaNahar is a Reconstructionist Synagogue in the heart of New Hope. In addition to traditional weekly Shabbat services, Rabbi Sandy Roth leads monthly family, children’s, meditation and musical services, as well as a host of continuing education programs, and a rich Shul school curriculum. For membership information, program details or directions, contact 215-862-1912, or visit www.kehilathanahar.org.
