10:00 am to Noon, Bucks County Audubon Society presents the first in a Spring Home Gardening Lecture Series on Gardening for Life: "Gardening for Shade" at the Honey Hollow Environmental Education Center. David Benner, Professor Emeritus, Delaware Valley College will show participants how to work with the environment and the importance of using native plants. Alternatives to grass lawns and ways to create a natural landscape requiring little maintenance will be presented. Registration cost includes a copy of “Gardening in the Shade” by David Benner. The Gardening for Life Spring Lecture Series is intended to enhance the gardening community’s awareness, understanding and sense of stewardship of the environment by providing alternative gardening practices that are sustainable and work with nature. This series will provide the gardening community with the technical skills to develop a garden that is compatible with the surrounding environment. April 7-9, 2006
From April 7th until April 9th the Art Colony at Prallsville Mills will be the site for “Scenes From Around II”; Mike Mann’s second annual solo watercolor and acrylic painting show. His works are colorful and impressionistic/realistic landscapes. He usually depicts local scenes although some of his pictures are of Ocean City and other more distant locales. The opening will be on Friday April 7th from 6:30 to 10 pm. On Saturday and Sunday the show be open from 10am to 6pm. The Art Colony is located at the northern of Stockton, NJ on Rt. 29 around four miles north of Lambertville. Mike considers himself a plein air painter, and he can often be spotted at his easel on the roadside or wherever an interesting view draws him. He studied at the Art Students League under the great illustrator, Steven R. Kidd. Mike’s work has been shown in various venues throughout the area.
On Saturday April 8th from 8 until 10pm, Mike will host a “poetry share” at the gallery. Bring ten minutes or so of your best work to read or just come to listen. There is limited seating so bring a folding chair if you’ll want to be sure of more than a blanket to sit on”. The two-day Shad Festival (Fest) in Lambertville, New Jersey, has been held annually since 1981 to herald the return of spawning Shad up the Delaware River. The Shad Festival provides an opportunity to watch New Jersey's only commercial Shad fishery in action using the old family tradition of Shad hauling (seining). Lambertville was a major commercial Shad fishery (designated a local legacy by the Library of Congress and owned and operated by the Lewis Family for over 100 years). 1:00-2:00
