Riverrun Gallery in Lambertville, NJ is pleased to announce the collaborative exhibition “Art – Italian Style” featuring plein-air paintings by gallery owners and local artists Gordon Haas, Ty Hodanish, Tony La Salle and Colette Sexton. The exhibit runs from Jan. 31 thru Feb. 16, with an opening night artist's reception Sat., Jan. 31 from 6 to 9 pm.

The Underground Railroad in Quilts? The Underground Railroad, the secret paths traveled by African Americans who escaped slavery in the South, is well documented by historians. Far more elusive is evidence that slaves used quilts as signals to guide their way to freedom. This hands-on talk and demonstration will feature authentic 19th century quilts and modern reproductions to explore some of the ways in which women stitched their politics, history, and mythology into quilt designs. A folklorist who specializes in material culture, Cassandra Gunkel has documented and studied African American quilts and textiles. She also has curated numerous exhibits in Philadelphia and Bucks County.

Cassandra S. Gunkel, Ph D, is a Bucks County resident who specializes in material culture or the culture, history and traditions passed on through hand-made objects. She is an exhibited quilt artist and textile designer whose work has been shown in museums and galleries in Philadelphia and Bucks County. Dr. Gunkel also lectures around the country on African American culture, the history of quilts, and the artistic legacies of women.
