Keyboard Tips 11/23/99

Copy, Paste, Undo

You can use the keyboard shortcuts of CTRL-C to copy, CTRL-V to paste and CTRL-X to cut in almost all programs. You can use CTRL-Z to undo in most applications.

Selecting Text

Instead of highlighting text with the mouse try using your keyboard. HOME key moves the cursor to the begininng of the line. END key moves it to the end of the line.

Hit HOME key to move the cursor to the beginning of the line, hold down SHIFT key and press END key - now the whole line is highlighted. While still holding the SHIFT key, hit the down arrow key - now the line below is highlighted too. You can select portions of the text by holding down SHIFT key and using arrow keys. You can also hold down SHIFT and use PAGE UP and PAGE DOWN keys to select larger protions of the text.
