ILLUSION
Hidden among piles
of massive greed we discover
who we really are.
Shiny metal and baubles fool us
into thinking we’ve won the quest
yet in the end the diversion has no winners,
only souls with skeletal frame attached.
Guard now what is dear simply because
the chance is fleeting.
No mockery or sarcasm framed in humor,
merely bittersweet wisdom outside looking in.
