A significant portion of what is seen around the globe on television
everyday is the output of a few large US media corporations. In
essence they are engaging humanity as a whole in similar thought
patterns, experiences, imagery and context of reality. TV is a medium
that can mold cultures and it is being controlled mainly by corporations
whose sole interest is in expanding their markets to make as much
money as possible in the shortest period of time.
The materialistic hogwash that dominates the airwaves here is our
own mess. But, it's beyond belief that we as a society are allowing
our government to let large corporations perform cultural castration
on other countries in their pursuit of profits. To add insult to
injury, the US has wealthy religious evangelical organizations preaching
around the globe on the airwaves. Who the heck are the US
government, US transnational corporations and wealthy religious
organizations to be telling other cultures how to live? Our own
airwaves are dominated by consumerism, materialism and profit. A
passive audience being fed a constant stream of the message "consume
to be happy". This is the legacy we pass onto the global community
during our temporary tenure as the sole superpower?
Then we have the Christian fundamentalists John Ashcroft and "born
again" George Bush leading the legal system and presidency.
Religious fundamentalists (be they the Osama's, Ayatollah's, Ashcroft's
or Bush's) are still just that "religious fundamentalists",
with their own agenda of pushing their values onto every being on
the planet. History is full of these bozos, but with the power
of today's mass media they have become exponentially
more dangerous. Jump back jack - get all these melon heads (money
and religious zealots alike) out of our faces and brains. They are
hastening the destruction of the biosphere and the human spirit.
